Ambulances Returned to Squad -- Awaiting Accreditation/Licensure **NEW** ![]() Photo from Star Ledger - Alexandra Pais/New Jersey Local News Service On Monday (06/21), both Ambulances were returned to the Squad by the Township with out incident, in compliance with the Judge's Orders. However, this was not before multiple (and costly for township) attempts to repeatedly appeal the Judge's Decision. The Judge ruled on each attempt that their appeal is Denied, and that they must return the ambulances. With the return of the ambulances, the squad can now begin re-starting our EMS services to the township. As we have stated and maintained before, Squads do not "appear" overnight. There are many steps to follow in order to effectively and safely provide EMS service. At this time, our ambulances are undergoing inspections and preparation for the New Jersey State First Aid Council Accreditation, and the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services BLS Provider Licensure and Inspection. To Date, there has been some additional damage discovered on one of the ambulances which may require additional out of service time for that vehicle. Once the ambulances receive their respective approvals, the Squad will resume answering calls for Service. Additionally, at this time, our neighboring squads (which already cover other parts of the Township), will be covering our Station. This "mutual aid" system has been in place and working successfully for many years. The Squad will also still be responding EMT's in Two Quick Response Units, when staffing is available. We thank all the support we have received from the Township Residents, and we urge everyone not to give up. This is just the beginning. Mayor Jay Weeks has vowed (In recent quotes) to ignore the public's interest and purse his own agenda. The other committee members have stated they want "total control." We already have seen what "Too Much" Government does. We should not let that happen in out own community. Judge Rules in Squads Favor
Our court hearing was this past Friday. Judge Peter Buchsbaum ruled that the Township violated the Open Public Meetings Act, and ordered the Township to return the Ambulances and Equipment, pending a 7 Day Stay. The Judge advised both parties that in this case, the court strongly encourages both parties to reach a compromise or settlement outside of court that would serve both parties interested in the best way. At this time, the Squad is in full agreement with the Judge and look forward to working out a compromise, which we have advised the Township through our Lawyer on Friday, and we will continue to remind them through out the week. Unfortunately, Mayor Weeks announced Friday that he has no plans in changing his position [or working out a compromise]. We sincerely hope that he will reconsider his position.
